pc organisations and businesses responsible business doesn't have to cost the world plastic clever families looking out for future generations plastic clever festivals any other type is just stupid! 1 1 be plastic clever be plastic clever a youth social action project a bout two years ago, the meek family: tim, kerry and daughters amy and ella meek , decided that they couldn’t sit back and do nothing about the amount of single-use plastic pollution they were seeing going to landfill , onto our streets , flowing into our rivers , and reaching the far reaches of our world oceans . they were appalle d by the images of dead albatros chicks full of plastic , saddened by turtles, dolphins, whales and fish entangled by netting and seen ingesting plastic debris . and then there was that video about the turtle and the plastic straw . at this time, they were also learning that plastic never biodegrades , it never goes away but instead breaks down into smaller and smaller pieces , and that the seafood we eat , is very likely to have nano plastics (and the toxins they attract) in it . yum! and to make matters worse, they learnt about the difference between closed-loop recycling and down-cycling , and that plastic bottles of water and fizz, in the main, contain zero recycled plastic in them – despite being led to believe they do! the be plastic clever project is a family-funded initiative, so any support you can give will be much appreciated. so they decided to do something … together they worked to have a positive impact on the single plastic issue and amy and ella set up kids against plastic , a youth social action project with some clear aims: raise awareness of the issues associated with a misuse of the material plastic help people to use less single-use plastic, starting with easy to avoid items pick up 100,000 pieces of single-use plastic beverage items with the help from a friend, and a festival they were helping to use less plastic, came up with the concept of people becoming ‘plastic clever’. amy meek (14) co-founder amy is just a regular 14 year old school girl with a hope that she will grow up in a fair and decent world where humans live peacefully alongside each other and other living animals, and a respect for the planet motivates us all to ensure we do the right thing for it - protect it. and like other young activists around the world, amy decided that she would try and be proactive to address some of the issues in which she feels she can make a difference, starting with single-use plastic. ella meek (12) co-founder ella is an ordinary 12 year old girl with a strong passion for animals and wildlife. when she grows up, she wants to be an animal tv presenter and raise awareness of plastic and how it affecting our planet. she wants to live in a society where people care about the animals and want to protect them and will do as much as possible to make all her hopes and dreams become a reality. find out about the two young founders of kids against plastic c’mon, join us!
